The Secret To Having A Great Day

The Secret To Having A Great Day

What if having a great day isn't about perfect circumstances, but about deciding we're worthy in the first place?

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, "How can I have a great day? There’s just too much to do.." or ”I'll be happy once everything is finally under control"?

And even when life is going well, what do we tell ourselves? “Don't enjoy this too much, because the other shoe is bound to drop.”

In this heartfelt episode, we explore why so many of us postpone joy, hand our power over to circumstances, and allow negative self-talk—or the opinions of others—to dictate how we feel.

Most importantly, you'll be reminded that you already have everything you need to begin creating a great day—right here, right now.

Quiet your inner critic, stop apologizing for taking up space, embrace laughter as a powerful tool for resilience!

If you've been feeling overwhelmed, doubting yourself, or waiting for permission to enjoy your life, this episode is your invitation to reclaim your joy, trust yourself, and remember: you deserve to have a great day.

The Shift Beneath the Words:

  • You deserve to have a great day.
  • Take back control of your inner dialogue.
  • Don't let outside voices define your worth.
  • Choose joy through laughter, self-compassion, and authenticity.
  • Reclaim your personal power through intentional choices.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed or waiting for perfect circumstances, make the next decision, trust yourself, and remember that you have the ability to shape your own experience.

Speaker:

Hey, everybody.

Speaker:

Are you having a great day?

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

Oh, no, you're not?

Speaker:

It's okay.

Speaker:

I got you.

Speaker:

I'm Tif Loeffler.

Speaker:

Welcome to Positively Yours.

Speaker:

I'm going to share Tif's tips, techniques, and a little bit of magic

Speaker:

to help you up level and have a great day every day.

Speaker:

Are you ready to get started?

Speaker:

Yeah!

Speaker:

Oh, you're not?

Speaker:

That's okay.

Speaker:

I still got you.

Speaker:

Let's go.

Speaker:

When people meet me a lot of times, I'm very flattered.

Speaker:

I hear, oh my gosh, you're so bubbly and positive all the time.

Speaker:

How do you do it?

Speaker:

And I like to say to them, that's just who I am.

Speaker:

And I think in a sense it is.

Speaker:

That's just who I am.

Speaker:

I love being bubbly and positive.

Speaker:

I love complimenting people.

Speaker:

I love life.

Speaker:

I love fun and playtime.

Speaker:

And up until a few years ago, even in spite of huge financial setbacks,

Speaker:

not knowing what I'm doing in life.

Speaker:

I thought, you know, I still have this underlying bubbly.

Speaker:

Everything's going to work out.

Speaker:

You know why?

Speaker:

Because my family is safe.

Speaker:

We're healthy.

Speaker:

Everything's fine.

Speaker:

That was my go-to.

Speaker:

That was my default for my whole life.

Speaker:

Until the morning of March 28th, 2024, when we got a call that my younger

Speaker:

brother, Court, had fallen and was taken to the hospital.

Speaker:

And two hours later, he was gone.

Speaker:

He had died of a sudden massive heart attack at the age of 48.

Speaker:

And oh, it is amazing saying that takes me back to that day to a great

Speaker:

extent that my world shattered into so many pieces.

Speaker:

It seemed impossible to make it through that day.

Speaker:

I have five people in my family, my mom, my dad, myself, my younger brother

Speaker:

Court, and my youngest brother Theron.

Speaker:

And I adore my family and we are so close.

Speaker:

And I understand that with great closeness could create great grief

Speaker:

should anything happen.

Speaker:

I was not prepared.

Speaker:

I don't think anybody is.

Speaker:

And it has forever altered my view of that positivity.

Speaker:

And I will tell you, I certainly can understand when people get annoyed at

Speaker:

that whole toxic positivity.

Speaker:

No, just say everything's fine.

Speaker:

The sky is falling, but your feet are on the ground.

Speaker:

You're fine.

Speaker:

And I think that ties into that internal mindset we have.

Speaker:

Like, I just have to get through the day.

Speaker:

If I can just survive the day and our brain is more than happy to help us.

Speaker:

And the challenge with that is at the end of the day, your brain says,

Speaker:

see, you're alive.

Speaker:

Problem is so many times you feel like you just got run over by a freight

Speaker:

train and your brain says, yeah, but you're alive.

Speaker:

So it's in my job.

Speaker:

Good job.

Speaker:

Gave me and you're thinking really?

Speaker:

So up until truly that moment, I was just bubbly happy all the time and I

Speaker:

would put on a false positivity just because I was powering through.

Speaker:

And it's interesting now because when people get to know me, I'm still that

Speaker:

bubbly positive.

Speaker:

And then they get to know me more.

Speaker:

And now I hear several people say, wow, I thought that you just everything was

Speaker:

so perfect in your world.

Speaker:

And now I've heard some things that you have gone through and wow, then they

Speaker:

ask, okay, how do you stay positive now?

Speaker:

Like I get before, but now how are you staying positive?

Speaker:

And I wish I had an answer that would be helpful.

Speaker:

I feel to people except I can say that you do wake up every day and you do have

Speaker:

choices and you may not like the choices in front of you and that's okay.

Speaker:

I mean, it is okay to say even in a day.

Speaker:

Wow.

Speaker:

I think this day is this day could really suck and yet I also get to say, you

Speaker:

know what?

Speaker:

I'm gonna do my best.

Speaker:

And that's what I'm trying to make sure that I model for myself that I wake up

Speaker:

in the morning.

Speaker:

And I'm also going to add that this is is something that I like to put grief

Speaker:

grieving outside of this.

Speaker:

So I want to take any grief that you have and I want you to put that to the side

Speaker:

because that's a very deep subject and I don't want that.

Speaker:

That's its own honor and I'm talking about you wake up in the day.

Speaker:

Okay, maybe things are going quite quite right, but I love I heard this somewhere

Speaker:

and someone said he wakes up in the morning.

Speaker:

He says I am a genius.

Speaker:

This is exactly the way that I've planned it.

Speaker:

Look, it's exactly the way I wanted it.

Speaker:

And now I get to make choices on how I want it to look going forward and I

Speaker:

appreciate that so much because we can always look at our day and start to

Speaker:

nitpick and say I have to go to work or I have to deal with so-and-so or I'm not

Speaker:

going to have enough time.

Speaker:

We could just go there right away, but instead what if and maybe this is one

Speaker:

of tips tips to have a great day is to be as obnoxiously silly in the morning

Speaker:

when you wake up before you even get out of bed.

Speaker:

Just wake up and go.

Speaker:

Oh my God, I woke up.

Speaker:

Yes, I did it.

Speaker:

Thank you.

Speaker:

This could be an incredible day or I woke up.

Speaker:

I am a freaking genius because I look around and it's just exactly the way I

Speaker:

left it last night.

Speaker:

This is great.

Speaker:

Awesome.

Speaker:

No sleepwalking for me or waking up like I get to eat breakfast scar.

Speaker:

This is going to be the greatest day of my life.

Speaker:

And you know your brain might be saying are you insane?

Speaker:

Yes in a good way.

Speaker:

In a very good way because I am making conscious commands that today is going

Speaker:

to be a great day.

Speaker:

So no matter what day I'm having I do get to make choices.

Speaker:

Yes, I'm naturally bubbly.

Speaker:

I like to think that in fact my boyfriend has said I wonder if you are adopted

Speaker:

not that everyone in my family is sad, but he just said you're particularly

Speaker:

bubbly and I said thanks and it hasn't seemed to change as I've aged which I'm

Speaker:

very grateful for because on another note as we get older we have more life

Speaker:

experiences and it can be very easy to slide down into the weight of things

Speaker:

that haven't gone.

Speaker:

Well, it would keep you from having a great day and I totally understand that

Speaker:

and there's where the choice is more important than ever that at any given

Speaker:

moment of the day and this this device could be your greatest distractor but

Speaker:

also be a very nice friend.

Speaker:

You can even set a timer for yourself and just check in just check in time

Speaker:

just check in for a moment.

Speaker:

Just you can make it the same time scattered around and with that ding ding

Speaker:

ding and just like I go, huh, just check it with myself.

Speaker:

How am I doing?

Speaker:

Am I doing?

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

I am cool.

Speaker:

And if I'm not going to make a little tweak and if I am you know what it's

Speaker:

also wonderful to celebrate.

Speaker:

We don't celebrate enough.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

I am so spoiled.

Speaker:

I have such a large family growing up there were so many celebrations major

Speaker:

holidays birthdays weddings graduations baby showers.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

Now we've gone through a few iterations of baby shower graduation getting

Speaker:

married baby shower graduation getting married and now it's baby shower again

Speaker:

and I think whoa that is so cool.

Speaker:

It's cool to have those moments and also there's so many days I am the day

Speaker:

and I think what did I end up doing today?

Speaker:

What kind of happened and I do that for a week and for a month and I want to

Speaker:

remind us that celebrate we're here on the planet to celebrate I am telling

Speaker:

you now once in a while things happen where we go through a little bit of

Speaker:

suffering for a vast majority suffering is optional.

Speaker:

Yes, there is some angst in the world, but there's also so much beauty and

Speaker:

joy and reasons to celebrate and if you can't think of any come talk to me

Speaker:

and I'll find a huge list and I could list some right now having breakfast

Speaker:

being able to open my eyes being able to use my feet being able to use my

Speaker:

hands being able to get dressed.

Speaker:

I can walk outside.

Speaker:

I actually can smell food.

Speaker:

I can talk to people I can offer compliments.

Speaker:

I can hear what they have to say.

Speaker:

I could tell someone I love you.

Speaker:

I can breathe.

Speaker:

And so I just feel it's in our hearts are our sovereign.

Speaker:

I want to say job, but it's our it's our mission.

Speaker:

It's our vocation in life to have as much fun as possible and to bring

Speaker:

people along for that celebration because what is our life?

Speaker:

We could not take anything with us except the energy of the love and the

Speaker:

celebration that we had with people throughout our whole lives.

Speaker:

And yeah, there's there's probably going to be some other stuff that

Speaker:

comes along the way and guess what sustains us and guess what's the

Speaker:

most important the most important is love and I want you to just love

Speaker:

on yourself every day by celebrating as much as you can have as much

Speaker:

fun as you can find the fun is it's a challenge at times.

Speaker:

If you're at work doing some boring things or talking to someone

Speaker:

and they're droning on and on and yet.

Speaker:

There's always that spark that little bit of when I get done with

Speaker:

this task.

Speaker:

I'm going to celebrate.

Speaker:

You know what?

Speaker:

I'm going to lovingly interrupt this person and compliment them and

Speaker:

then I'm going to go on with my day and I'm going to celebrate that

Speaker:

too.

Speaker:

It doesn't matter.

Speaker:

It really doesn't.

Speaker:

What's important is that you know in your heart you are here for a

Speaker:

reason the best reason of all and the reason is that of the trillions

Speaker:

of elements that congealed at one moment how it was you and you

Speaker:

arrived into the world and you're amazing and you have talents and

Speaker:

you have an energy unlike anybody else.

Speaker:

So why would we have anything other than a great day when it all

Speaker:

possible?

Speaker:

I think it's absolutely possible.

Speaker:

And that's why I like to share with people truly how to have a great

Speaker:

day and to build on that because it's simple.

Speaker:

Maybe not easy at times.

Speaker:

That's okay.

Speaker:

It is fun to have that powerful brain of yours create that moment

Speaker:

that is unique in this moment only to you and I think that's what I

Speaker:

want to end this segment with is on the power of the present moment

Speaker:

because right here right now I could be thinking of a million different

Speaker:

things and yet I'm so excited that right now I'm here talking with

Speaker:

you in this podcast and you know what that's really all I'm thinking

Speaker:

about.

Speaker:

I'm really not thinking about much what to say next.

Speaker:

I'll just let it flow.

Speaker:

I am enjoying the moment taking a breath once in a while and realizing

Speaker:

this is where the power is.

Speaker:

It's in the present moment at any given time.

Speaker:

If I could offer you one piece of wisdom, that's not mine, but I'm happy

Speaker:

to share it.

Speaker:

The power of the present moment is where it's at at every given time

Speaker:

and you have that power always.

Speaker:

Please don't let anyone ever even for a moment try to take that from

Speaker:

you and say, nope, you don't have that power.

Speaker:

Oh, you have that power.

Speaker:

And I am so passionate about lifting people up to make sure that they

Speaker:

know that they are in their power because that power is always good.

Speaker:

It is always good.

Speaker:

And when you truly know that you have that power, you are unstoppable

Speaker:

in the best way possible.

Speaker:

So I want you to know that you have got the power in you at every moment

Speaker:

to have a great day and it just starts with the moment and it can start

Speaker:

with something as simple as just taking a breath.
