What would change if we stopped living according to other people’s expectations and started leading from the heart of who we truly are?
In this episode of Evolving With Elle, Elle explores what it means to live from your Cor essence and bring your genuine self into every role and relationship. She examines how judgment, people-pleasing, comparison, and rigid expectations can disconnect us from ourselves and one another.
Through reflections on parenting, boundaries, belonging, self-care, and accountability, Elle invites us to look inward, honor what we truly need, and give ourselves permission to live authentically- creating space for others, and the next generation, to do the same.
The Shift Beneath the Words:
- Living from your Cor essence
- Letting go of expectations and judgment
- Creating space for others to be fully themselves
- Setting boundaries and prioritizing yourself
- The power of compassionate accountability
Trusted relationships can help us see both our strengths and the areas where we need to grow. While accountability isn't always comfortable, honest feedback delivered with compassion can reconnect us with ourselves and help us evolve.

Welcome to Evolving with Elle, where a capable
Speaker:woman recognizes what she's managing, understands the responsibilities
Speaker:that she's carrying, and chooses self-honoring over
Speaker:self-abandonment, and decides to continue, change, or
Speaker:release.
Speaker:I am Elle.
Speaker:I bring the mirror, the map, and the
Speaker:method.
Speaker:You choose how you show up in a
Speaker:way that honors your capacity.
Speaker:So let's lean in, learn, and evolve together.
Speaker:My vision for our world is one where
Speaker:we are human beings that understand each other's
Speaker:humanity.
Speaker:We are not asking each other to live
Speaker:based on how we expect other people to
Speaker:live, because Oscar Wilde, I love his definition
Speaker:of what it means to be selfish.
Speaker:And it blew my mind when I found
Speaker:it.
Speaker:So in a nutshell, what Oscar Wilde was
Speaker:saying is that if I, Elle, tell you
Speaker:how to live, that is what is selfish.
Speaker:But if I live the way I choose
Speaker:to live, that's not selfish.
Speaker:And that is what I want in this
Speaker:world for us to really understand what selfishness
Speaker:is, for us to live based on how
Speaker:we want to live in relationship to ourselves
Speaker:and to others.
Speaker:Because as I've shared with you, I value
Speaker:connection, compassion, and love, and love being treating
Speaker:people the way we wanna be treated.
Speaker:And I have a very strong hunch that
Speaker:we don't want to be defined by the
Speaker:roles that we carry, whether it is a
Speaker:gendered role or being a parent, a spouse,
Speaker:an employee, a business owner, we are more
Speaker:than just those roles.
Speaker:But we get to bring our unique, genuine
Speaker:selves into those roles.
Speaker:And that is my dream for this world,
Speaker:my vision.
Speaker:And a major part of that is that
Speaker:as the adults, once we get clear on
Speaker:being able to bring our full selves into
Speaker:every aspect of our lives, we also get
Speaker:to create a structure and safety for our
Speaker:children to do the same, to honor who
Speaker:they are, that spark that they were born
Speaker:with, instead of burdening them with, hey, I'm
Speaker:protecting you from my pain.
Speaker:Really?
Speaker:So let's not do that.
Speaker:So that is my vision for this world,
Speaker:is for us to live from a place
Speaker:of our unique, genuine selves.
Speaker:What I call our core essence, and core
Speaker:being C-O-R, which is in Latin,
Speaker:heart.
Speaker:So live from the heart of who we
Speaker:are.
Speaker:So I shared with you my vision.
Speaker:The question is how?
Speaker:What is getting in the way of that?
Speaker:I'll go with what's getting in the way.
Speaker:What gets in the way of us leaving
Speaker:from the heart of who we are is
Speaker:the fact that we're very judgmental.
Speaker:We're very legalistic.
Speaker:We're very rigid.
Speaker:You know, I talk to you guys about
Speaker:those rigid rules that I call expectations.
Speaker:The expectations that we did not choose consciously.
Speaker:They've just been heaped upon us by society,
Speaker:culture, what we inherited, what's innately in us.
Speaker:Sometimes we expect so much of ourselves because
Speaker:we're comparing and competing with other people.
Speaker:That gets in the way of living from
Speaker:our heart, from living from a place of
Speaker:uniqueness.
Speaker:I'm guilty of wanting to manage my reputation,
Speaker:but I don't have control over what somebody
Speaker:thinks about me.
Speaker:I'm guilty of trying to people please.
Speaker:Like, I want to give my children a
Speaker:better life than what I had.
Speaker:I don't want my children to be in
Speaker:any kind of pain, but I'm robbing them
Speaker:by doing that.
Speaker:That gets in the way of someone being
Speaker:connected to themselves.
Speaker:If someone prevents them from learning and connecting
Speaker:with themselves, I had to learn that.
Speaker:And the last thing I want to say,
Speaker:it's tied to that selfishness thing.
Speaker:It's where we project, we take our experiences
Speaker:and put them on top of everyone else
Speaker:to say, hey, why don't you know what
Speaker:I know?
Speaker:Well, because you've had a different life than
Speaker:I've had.
Speaker:So that's why I don't know what you
Speaker:know.
Speaker:And we've had different parents, different experiences.
Speaker:And that is not something to bring blame,
Speaker:shame or guilt upon anyone, but instead to
Speaker:really and truly give that compassion and grace,
Speaker:because if there's something that you don't know,
Speaker:but I know, how would you feel if
Speaker:I came to you and said, how dare
Speaker:you not know that you're supposed to fill
Speaker:in whatever blank, you know?
Speaker:And that's the thing, let's stop doing that.
Speaker:Let's, because that so gets in the way
Speaker:of people living authentically from their heart, because
Speaker:no one wants to be seen.
Speaker:No one wants to be seen as an
Speaker:outsider in this humanity where we all have
Speaker:a need, a need to belong.
Speaker:Since we all have a need to belong,
Speaker:and we all are uniquely, genuinely authentic individuals
Speaker:who get to live from our core essence,
Speaker:what can we do to allow each other
Speaker:the space to be fully human?
Speaker:Well, if someone makes a mistake, makes a
Speaker:choice that probably is not ideal, but they're
Speaker:making the choice from what they know, how
Speaker:about we share with them what we learned
Speaker:or what we see that they could have
Speaker:learned?
Speaker:And then as the receiver of that information,
Speaker:we have a choice.
Speaker:Is that something that you want to listen
Speaker:to or not or save for another day?
Speaker:Because in belonging, everyone has a need to
Speaker:be seen, heard and understood.
Speaker:Because to be vilified, blamed, shamed, ostracized, that
Speaker:does not lead to people living connected, aligned
Speaker:from their heart.
Speaker:Another thing that we can do is we
Speaker:get to look at ourselves in the mirror.
Speaker:You know, the Michael Jackson song, the man
Speaker:in the mirror, or dare I say the
Speaker:person in the mirror, right?
Speaker:Look at the person in the mirror.
Speaker:And as you look at yourself in the
Speaker:mirror, you get to examine how you are,
Speaker:how you got to where you are.
Speaker:Again, not from a place of shame, guilt,
Speaker:or blaming parents or the man or politics
Speaker:or whatever.
Speaker:No, no, no.
Speaker:It's like, hey, what do I have control
Speaker:over?
Speaker:What do you as the person in the
Speaker:mirror have control over?
Speaker:What are some things that were taught to
Speaker:you that what's the good and what could
Speaker:be left to the side?
Speaker:And you, again, you're choosing.
Speaker:And as you're making these choices, you join
Speaker:in with safe, trusted individuals within a community
Speaker:or one-on-one where you can have
Speaker:someone read your label and say, hey, this
Speaker:is how I see you show up.
Speaker:And you'll be like, hey, Janet, that's, you're
Speaker:saying that about me?
Speaker:Yes, I am saying that about you, Janet.
Speaker:That is how I see you.
Speaker:And watch Janet's confidence go up because she
Speaker:may not have been saying that to herself.
Speaker:But as we read each other's labels, let's
Speaker:do so with compassion and grace because we
Speaker:also get to tell each other hard things,
Speaker:to hold each other accountable.
Speaker:It's not all about the nice stuff.
Speaker:And accountability is a thing.
Speaker:I have been, I've been held accountable and
Speaker:it felt absolutely atrocious.
Speaker:I'm smiling now because I recognize the gift
Speaker:that it was to be held accountable.
Speaker:In the moment, I wanted to separate from
Speaker:that person and say, you are my enemy
Speaker:for telling me something like this.
Speaker:And they were not.
Speaker:They just saw like, hey, I've seen you
Speaker:behave in this manner but today I'm not
Speaker:seeing it, you know?
Speaker:And that allowed me to connect back with
Speaker:myself and say, hey, what am I doing?
Speaker:And that's beautiful.
Speaker:Does it feel good all the time?
Speaker:No, but if someone cares about you enough
Speaker:to tell you both the things that make
Speaker:you feel good and those that probably don't
Speaker:in the moment but you get to evaluate
Speaker:it for yourself, those are beautiful things.
Speaker:It's costing you, costing those that you are
Speaker:in relationship with and costing this world for
Speaker:us to live disconnected from who we are
Speaker:at our core.
Speaker:We are robbing each other of choice, robbing
Speaker:each other of the possibilities of making decisions
Speaker:that could teach us all the more and
Speaker:move us even further, farther down the road
Speaker:because getting out of the familiar, leave the
Speaker:familiar, we think the familiar is safe.
Speaker:I thought that for so long.
Speaker:It's not as safe as what we think
Speaker:it is.
Speaker:So as you're looking at yourself in the
Speaker:mirror, you get to ask yourself, how do
Speaker:I wanna be treated?
Speaker:Have you ever asked yourself that?
Speaker:It's like, go figure.
Speaker:And it's okay because again, that is not
Speaker:selfish that you checking in with you.
Speaker:And part of that check-in is like,
Speaker:hey, do I like giving all of my
Speaker:time to my job, to my children, to
Speaker:my spouse and nothing to myself?
Speaker:Is it okay for me to actually put
Speaker:in some boundaries for myself?
Speaker:And I learned from my mother that it
Speaker:is.
Speaker:At the time when I was a child,
Speaker:I didn't understand what she was doing when
Speaker:she would go into her room, close the
Speaker:door and say, don't bother me.
Speaker:And we learned as children when that bedroom
Speaker:door is closed, don't bother her.
Speaker:And what was she doing?
Speaker:My mother was sitting in the bathtub to
Speaker:actually take a bath.
Speaker:She was giving herself a pedicure.
Speaker:There was times she was exercising, just pushups,
Speaker:sit-ups.
Speaker:She was having spiritual time where she would
Speaker:read her Bible and have a conversation with
Speaker:God.
Speaker:She was taking care of aspects of herself
Speaker:that her spouse couldn't do, that her children
Speaker:couldn't do, only she could do.
Speaker:And by watching her do that, I now
Speaker:know that it's okay to tell my children,
Speaker:I'll be with you in a minute and
Speaker:create those boundaries, create that time for myself.
Speaker:So I invite you as you look in
Speaker:the mirror to evaluate, hey, what are some
Speaker:boundaries that can be tightened up in your
Speaker:family where you can give yourself the necessary
Speaker:time you need to love on yourself?
Speaker:Because again, it's necessary, it's needed, right along
Speaker:with belonging.
Speaker:Because let's imagine if everyone loved on themselves
Speaker:and treated themselves the way they wanna treat
Speaker:others, wow, what?
Speaker:Okay, like hear me out here.
Speaker:So as a parent, what would you give
Speaker:your child now that you have poured into
Speaker:yourself and refreshed and loved on you, what
Speaker:are you now able to give your child?
Speaker:You're actually able to give them the time
Speaker:that they need and that they want, that
Speaker:they've probably been, knock, ma, pa, dad, mommy,
Speaker:you know, they've been at that door, but
Speaker:you've like, hey, no, I'll be out, give
Speaker:me 15 minutes.
Speaker:It doesn't need, you don't need a long
Speaker:time, just 15 minutes.
Speaker:What would you give them?
Speaker:What would they observe and bring with them
Speaker:down the road?
Speaker:Like what my mother gave to me that
Speaker:I saw her do, now I know, oh,
Speaker:it's okay for me to do because they
Speaker:pick up more of what they see you
Speaker:do than what they hear you say, okay?
Speaker:And I know you know that, and I'm
Speaker:not trying to talk down to you with
Speaker:that, okay?
Speaker:It's my parent coming out right there.
Speaker:So let us really and truly love each
Speaker:other that way and treat people the way
Speaker:we wanna be treated because that opens the
Speaker:door for everyone else.
Speaker:And when you open that door, you have
Speaker:other options available to you, like going to
Speaker:a mental health professional without needing to, okay?
Speaker:Go ahead and do that, that's a good
Speaker:thing.
Speaker:Go to a life coach, a business coach,
Speaker:a dating coach, a coach who helps you
Speaker:get in a line with yourself, that would
Speaker:be me.
Speaker:So go ahead and join one of my
Speaker:programs.
Speaker:I invite you to stay connected with me
Speaker:as you navigate how to align with the
Speaker:core of who you are and bring that
Speaker:into every role that you have.
Speaker:Because let's think about it, every role that
Speaker:you have, that you carry is actually a
Speaker:relationship because you're not in that role by
Speaker:yourself just for yourself as a parent.
Speaker:Who's on the other side of that?
Speaker:Your child.
Speaker:As an employee, who's on the other side
Speaker:of that?
Speaker:Your boss and your coworkers.
Speaker:As a business owner, who's on the other
Speaker:side of that?
Speaker:Your employees and your clients.
Speaker:And when you are in relationship with yourself,
Speaker:who's on the side of that?
Speaker:You are, okay?
Speaker:So all of these things get to be
Speaker:harmonized and you are the conductor of your
Speaker:life.
Speaker:I want you to join me on this
Speaker:vision of all of us living from our
Speaker:core essence, the heart of who we are
Speaker:uniquely and genuinely.
Speaker:And I cannot wait to have other people
Speaker:join me, read my label, I read your
Speaker:label, and we're all having fun, holding each
Speaker:other accountable.
Speaker:It may hurt a little bit, but hey,
Speaker:we're stronger afterwards.
Speaker:We're better afterwards.
Speaker:And we create a path for the next
Speaker:generation to step into at a higher level.
Speaker:And just as my mother told me, I
Speaker:wanted you to be better than me.
Speaker:That's what she told me.
Speaker:So I'm gonna say that to you.
Speaker:I want you and your children to be
Speaker:better than me.
Speaker:Let's do that together.
